Speaking in turn, each of the authorities indicated the importance of this day and the theme chosen on the occasion. They insisted on giving women the elements that could enable them to show resilience in the face of the vagaries of climate change.

« The effect of climate change has a direct impact on the daily lives of women in our prefecture. Mostly farmers, women suffer from variations in rainfall due to alarming deforestation in our environment that cause land poverty with the direct consequence of insufficient harvests and in turn the impoverishment of households » lamented the secretary general of the prefecture of Vo.

« This conference is an opportunity to raise awareness among beneficiaries, their husbands, facilitators, coordinators and leaders of partner churches to work for gender equality in sustainable energy and the empowerment of women and girls. This initiative will encourage the promotion of policies and programs that consider climate change, environmental risk reduction, disasters and the removal of barriers, to create an environment conducive to women’s entrepreneurship and women’s access to sustainable energy » added Iréné Gbékou, of Compassion Togo.

Following the opening ceremony, the women were invited to a discussion workshop in three groups where they were interviewed by JVE members on the behaviors to adopt daily to maintain the clean environment and practices to preserve the few resources at their disposal.  During the exchanges, the women were able to discover improved stoves that allow cooking using little charcoal or bundles of wood.
