©AfreePress-(Lomé, october 30, 2023)-On October 28, 2023, Togolese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Professor Robert Dussey, made a visit to Khartoum as part of his mediation mission to address the prolonged crisis in Sudan that has persisted for several months.
During this visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration, and Togolese Abroad held discussions with the Sudanese President, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, to whom he conveyed a message from the Togolese Head of State, Faure Gnassingbé.
Minister Robert Dussey expressed his contentment at being present on Sudanese soil during this time of conflict to deliver a message of peace, dialogue, and reconciliation from President Faure Gnassingbé to his counterpart, President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan. He emphasized Togo’s commitment to contribute to the restoration of peace in Sudan, information that he shared on the X platform.
The power struggle between General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his former ally, General Mohamed Hamdane Daglo, who leads the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has been ongoing for several months.
In July 2023, the city of Lomé hosted consultations that brought together representatives of rebel factions, civil society, as well as academics, politicians, and political activists from Darfur. This two-day meeting resulted in the development of a roadmap and an action plan aimed at resolving the Sudanese crisis.
